Frequently asked questions

What is Markdown?

Markdown is a plain-text writing format. You mark up headings, lists, links, code and tables with simple symbols such as # and *, and tools turn that text into formatted documents.

How do I convert Markdown to PDF?

Paste or write your Markdown in the editor, adjust the look if you want, and click “Export PDF”. Your browser’s print dialog opens with a print-ready layout; choose “Save as PDF” as the destination. The app cannot save the PDF silently, so nothing is saved until you confirm in that dialog.

Can I customize the PDF layout?

Yes. You can choose A4 or Letter, set the margins, change fonts, sizes, colors, headings, code block and table styles, and add header text, footer text and page numbers. Header, footer and page-number text in PDFs works best in Chromium-based browsers such as Chrome and Edge.

Which export formats are supported?

PDF (through the print dialog), Word (.docx), standalone HTML, and the Markdown source file. The Word file is a real, editable .docx, though some visual details, such as rounded corners, and math as equations are not reproduced.

Does Markdown Studio require installation?

No. It runs in a modern web browser; there is nothing to download or install and no account to create.

Are my documents uploaded to a server or processed locally?

Based on how the application is built, your Markdown is processed in your browser: the app has no server component that receives your text, and uploaded files are read locally. Exceptions: images you reference by https:// address are loaded by your browser from their host (and fetched again for Word export), and the site itself is served by Cloudflare, which handles ordinary web requests. Only your style settings are saved in your browser’s local storage. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
